Restaurants in Antwerp: our tips

10-04-2020

Antwerp is easy to reach from our B&B by car, bicycle and/or waterbus. We love the cozy terraces of the Groenplaats, the Grote Markt or the Steenplein. Also nice is the neighborhood 't Eilandje with many restaurants, Museum aan de Stroom (MAS) and Red Star Line Museum. A top 10 of the best restaurants in Antwerp is difficult to make. There is so much choice.

Dim (€€€€)

The very young chef Dimitri Proost surprises everybody with his contemporary Japanese cuisine, with influences from world cities such as Tokio, New York, London and LA. His sushi is unequalled.

T’Fornuis(€€€€)

An extensive presentation of chef Johan Segers and his restaurant ’t Fornuis is clearly not necessary, as Segers is the Antwerp godfather of the classic cuisine.

Bistrot du Nord (€€€€)

The restaurant is relatively small and cosy, it feels like being in a Parisian bistro. A lot of attention is given to meat and the forgotten Flemish/French classic dishes.

L’Epicerie du Cirque (€€€€)

Light and pure, and this applies to both the scandinavian interior as to the cuisine. The creative cooking of the chef expresses itself in combinations which can sometimes be unexpected, not complicated but tasty.

The Jane (€€€€)

Most people have heard about The Jane. En everybody would like to go there for a meal…

Not easy to have a reservation. But the food is feasty.

The Jane is located in an impressive building, a chapel in ’t Groen Kwartier.

Het Pomphuis(€€€)

Existed already in 1920. Originally the 3 giant pumps in cast iron of Het Pomphuis were used to pump the water from the drydock nr 7, in order to allow for the maintance, charging and discharging of a ship. This monument has been transformed into an impressive restaurant and bar. When the weather is nice you can enjoy a beautiful view of the port of Antwerp and the ships passing by. The terrace is divided into a restaurant zone and a loung zone.
